AOC Prescribes Cure for 'Monitor Envy'
Launches guide to upgrading corporate display technology

Fremont, CA - July 30, 2003 - 86% of CRT users envy their colleagues who use LCD monitors, according to research from AOC Monitors.

AOC surveyed 685 business users and solution providers about end-user monitor preferences. More than 96% of respondents felt that users generally prefer LCDs to CRTs, with space maximization and better image quality being the top reasons.

The research also examined organizations' plans to upgrade display technology. Currently, only 15% of respondents work for organizations where more than half the users have LCDs. However, 94% of solution providers stated that their customers intend to upgrade from CRTs to LCDs, and 73% of IT professionals plan to upgrade some or all of their organizations' monitors. Of those, 50% plan to upgrade within the next year.

Over a third of the respondents cite the recent decrease in LCD prices as the main motivation for upgrading. However, tight budgets are still the biggest hindrance to rolling out LCDs, with nearly 80% pointing to hardware costs as the biggest challenge.

Based on the survey results, AOC has launched a guide to upgrading monitor technology titled 'Preparing for the Monitor Migration: When to upgrade display technology and how to determine the true costs of LCDs and CRTs.' The guide is intended to help organizations calculate the total cost of ownership (TCO) of LCDs vs. CRTs. In addition to a TCO calculator, it includes tips on selecting the best technology for a given application or environment and what features to look for, such as size, energy consumption, warranty and design options.

"The benefits of LCDs, such as their slim profiles, excellent image quality and sleek designs make them an enviable item for business users, and our survey indicates that users across the board prefer LCDs to CRTs. However, the higher costs of LCDs have presented roadblocks to upgrading," said Tam Chiang, director of marketing for AOC. "Our research shows that with recent price drops, the migration from CRTs to LCDs is more a question of 'when and how' than 'if' for most companies. Our guide is designed to help them calculate overall monitor costs and make the best selection for their organizations."
